Wordable

How to Play Wordable

Rules, scoring and strategy in five minutes.

Wordable is a 90-second word game. Letters fall onto the board; you tap them in any order to spell words, and the letters do not have to touch. Longer words and rarer letters score more. That is the whole game.

Most word games make you trace a path between letters that are next to each other. Wordable does not. That single difference changes how you play it.

The rules

How scoring works

Add up the letter values, then multiply by the word’s length: three-letter words × 1.5, four-letter words × 3, and from five letters up the multiplier is the length itself. The small number on each tile is its value.

9×3=27
PLAYING
13×7=91
REPLAYING
15×9=135

The letters barely changed. The score went up five times. Every letter value and multiplier is on the scoring page.

The decision you make every round

Because length scales so steeply, every board presents the same tension: bank several quick three-letter words, or spend ten seconds hunting one long one. Neither is always right. A six-letter word can be worth more than six short words, but only if you actually find it before the clock runs out.

Three things that help

Look for rare letters first

The purple tiles JXQZ are worth 8 to 10 points each. Build around one before you clear the easy threes. QUICK and HOUSE are both five letters:

HOUSE
8×5=40
QUICK
21×5=105

Think in stems, not paths

Because order does not matter, you can spot the letters for an ING or a TION ending and work backwards from there. This is the habit that separates players who have adapted to no adjacency from players still thinking in Boggle terms.

Edit instead of restarting

Tap into the word you are building to move the cursor, then insert or delete letters. Rebuilding from scratch costs time you don’t have.

SCARE

SQUARE
16×6=96
SQUARES
17×7=119

There is also a shuffle button, available once the board is full. Staring at a dead board costs more than a reshuffle does.

Game modes

Wordable is designed as an iPhone game. Everything below except the Wordabot demo lives in the app, and every mode uses the same board, clock and scoring.

Daily Arena

Daily word Arena — one board, one chance, earn trophies
The Arena: one board a day, one attempt.

Every day there is one Arena board, and every player in the world gets the same one. You get a single attempt. When you finish you see your rank, your percentile, and the standings, and you can react to other players' scores with an emoji. Finish near the top and you earn a trophy with that day's date on it.

Standings come in three views: everyone, your league (players at your level), and your friends. Playing the Arena every day builds an Arena streak that is tracked separately from your overall play streak.

Head to head

Head-to-head word game — challenge your friends on the same board
A challenge: same board, two scores.

Pick a friend, play the board, and the challenge goes to them. They play the identical board whenever they like, and both of you get a result screen with the two scores, every word each of you found, and a Rematch button. The app keeps a running series for every rivalry ("You lead 12–9"), each player's best score against the other, and a challenge streak that keeps going as long as you both keep playing.

No friends on Wordable yet? Match Me pairs you with an active player at a similar level, or you can spin for a random opponent. You can also search for anyone by username.

Wordable Live

One player hosts a lobby and shares an invite link. Anyone who joins (2 to 50 players) gets a countdown, then the same board at the same moment, with a live leaderboard updating as words land. Turn on teams to split the room into 2 to 4 teams with combined scores, chat in the lobby while you wait, and rematch when it's over. It is built for parties, classrooms and group chats.

Wordabot

Wordabot is an AI opponent that plays the same board you do. It has four levels, Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert, and in the app it adjusts to your recent scores so games stay close. It also switches between three play styles, Big Word Hunter, Steady Builder and Vocab Showcase, so it does not feel like the same bot every round. The browser demo is one round of Wordabot with no sign-up.

After the game: Game Analysis

Every word on the board, with its score.

Every game in the app ends with Game Analysis. It rebuilds your board turn by turn and shows the higher-scoring words that were available at each moment, using only the tiles that were actually on the board. You can swipe through the suggestions, see which letters you kept missing, and tap any word for its definition. It is the fastest way to find out whether your problem is speed, vocabulary or board reading.

Gems, streaks and trophies

Track your progress — trophies, streaks, and stats in the Wordable app
Streaks, trophies and records on your profile.

The gem next to a player's name is their all-time high score, in ten tiers from copper up to opal. It appears beside your name everywhere, so an opponent's gem tells you what you are up against before the game starts.

Playing on consecutive days builds a play streak, with reminders before it breaks and freeze days for holidays. Your profile tracks your high score, your highest-scoring word and your longest word, and the leaderboards rank the top scores, top words and most wins globally and among your friends.

The dictionary

Wordable checks words against its own dictionary of more than 173,000 words, stored on the phone, so validation is instant and works without a connection. The Vault lets you browse the whole thing with definitions, filter to a list of about a thousand SAT words, and save words to a word bank. If a real word gets rejected, you can submit it for review from your profile and it will be added in an update.

Common questions

Do the letters have to be next to each other?

No. This is the main rule difference between Wordable and Boggle or most other word games. Any letter on the board can be used in any order.

How long is a game?

90 seconds. You get a warning at 30 seconds and again at 10.

What is the shortest word allowed?

Three letters.

Is Wordable free?

Yes. The iPhone app is free, and there is also a free browser demo with no account or sign-up.

Can I play Wordable on Android?

Not yet. The full game is iPhone-only for now. The browser demo runs on any phone or desktop, but it is a solo round against Wordabot, not the full app.

Do I need an account?

Not to start. You can play against Wordabot without one. Sign in with Apple when you want friends, challenges, the Arena and your stats synced across devices.

Can I play offline?

Games against Wordabot work offline because the dictionary and the game logic are on the phone. Challenges, the Arena and Wordable Live need a connection to send and receive scores.

What do I get in the app that the browser demo doesn't have?

The daily Arena, head-to-head challenges with friends, Wordable Live for 2 to 50 players, Game Analysis after every round, the Vault dictionary browser, streaks, gems and trophies. The browser demo is a single 90-second round against Wordabot.
